Michele Perniola is Full Professor at the University of Basilicata, Potenza, Italy, and teaches Agronomy, Irrigation and water managient, and Microclimatology. Since October 2014, he has been Pro-Rector of University of Basilicata. He obtained a Master Degree in Agricultural Science, University of Bari (1984), with honours. He started his scientific activity in 1986 as a researcher at the Department of Plant Production, University of Basilicata. In 1980 he won a one-year scholarship at the Department of Agronomy and Range Science of Davis, CA, USA. He has been working as a Component and Coordinator in many research projects financed by the Italian Government, Basilicata Region, European Community, and private farms. His scientific activity is mainly related to the study of: Water relations in herbaceous crops; Ecophysiology of plant water stress; Measurient and modelling of crop evapotranspiration; Irrigation scheduling and water use efficiency of herbaceous crops; Growth analysis in response to abiotic stress; Light interception and radiation use efficiency in relation to plant water status; Effect of soil and irrigation water salinity on ecophysiological and agronomic behaviour of some herbaceous crops; Adoption of alternative biomass crop for energy production in the environment of South Italy; Influence of different cropping techniques (irrigation, sowing date, fertilisation, etc.) on ecophysiological and agronomic behaviour of some oil, industrial and vegetable crops; Analysis of environmental impact of different cropping systis with a particular irrigation and fertilisation method; Sustainable intensification of crop production. His scientific activity is proved by more than 150 papers published in national and international journals.

Michele Rinaldi is Senior Researcher of the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics, Research Centre for Cereal and Industrial Crops (CREA-CI), Foggia, Italy. He obtained a Master Degree in Agricultural Science, University of Bari (1986), with honours. He spent 6 months at IACR-Rothamsted, UK (2001-2002) and was visitor scientist for 4 months at the University of Florida-IRREC, Fort Pierce, FL, USA (2012). In 2014 he gained the National qualification of Full Professor in Agronomy, Field and Horticultural Crops and was selected for associated professor at the University of Bari (2016). He coordinated (2005-2011) a national project on riote sensing applied to agriculture and was responsible of several projects research units. His main research subjects are: Crop simulation models; Conservative agriculture; Crop yield and quality; Precision agriculture; Sustainable cropping systis; Irrigation use efficiency; Methodology for crop water requirient estimation; Physiological approach. He is involved in a H2020 project on Riote Sensing applied to Agriculture and in a regional project on Conservative Agriculture. He is reviewer of research projects at a European and national level. He is author of more than 240 contributions and 40 articles published in ISI journals.
